I am a fan of the PBS show "Call the Midwife". One of the reasons I enjoy the show is because there is a character on the show with Down syndrome named Reggie. The writers of the show do an excellent job of treating Reggie with respect and dignity, making him just another character but also highlighting his unique abilities and gifts.
Recently I watched the December 2023 Christmas special. The show highlighted a painting from 1515 by Jan Joest entitled "The Adoration of the Christ Child".
This painting is very special to me because two of the people in the painting, an angel and a shepherd, have Down syndrome.
I found this very interesting article which explains more about this very special painting.

I think the message this painting portrays is so beautiful- anyone is welcomed to come to Jesus and experience His love and purpose for his life. The Lord has a plan for each of us, no matter what we are capable and able to do.
There is so much I love about Christmas- the decorations, the music, the special church services, all the traditions, and the special time with family. But what always surpasses any of that is always the beauty of Baby Jesus and what his life and death can mean to each and everyone of us.
