One thing Andrew and I have always wanted to do is a family mission trip. Our 2 oldest have went on a mission trip with our church youth group, but we wanted to do a mission together as a family.
Well, our hope came true this past week. Granted, we couldn't all go on the trip as explained in a earlier post, but Andrew was able to go on our church's mission trip with our 3 oldest kids last week.
Thank you Lord for providing this opportunity!
Our church, through the organization Praying Pelican Missions, served on a Navajo Reservation out in northeast Arizona. During a reservation-wide church retreat, our team helped with the children's activities for the retreat as well as other service projects on the reservation.
Our three children along with their dad were able to work and worship along side each other. They studied God's word together and were able to see how the Lord is working in a mighty way on the reservation despite the many challenges the Navajo people face.
I think this experience planted seeds in our kids' relationship with the Lord and help them grow closer to the Lord and each other. This is what they each shared with our congregation at church this morning:
Lydia: amazed by the love, care, and concern the Christians on the reservation show for each other other
Stephen: amazed how the people on the reservation trust in the Lord even though they face hardships such as drug, alcohol and high suicide rates
Abigail: amazed by how encouraging a kind word -simple acts of kindness go a long way
My prayer is our kids will continue to grow in their relationships with the Lord and have a desire to serve and glorify Him each and every day.
I hope someday the boys and I can join in on another family mission trip. This is just the season of life we are in right now where the boys aren't quite ready for that type of experience. But someday, I think they too will be able to minister in an incredible way as part of a mission team!
